Driver's Guide

The purpose of this page is to describe LiveRacers features from Driver’s perspective. It describes the portal content & mechanics, the actions available to the Users and their responsibilities in roles like Driver or Team Principal

Drivers

LiveRacers automatically creates drivers from the server data, as the drivers join an online session, tracking each drivers' statistics and activity. In order to join teams, events and championships, the users need to register on LiveRacers and link their driver(s) with their user accounts.

Linking Driver

Registered users can link drivers anywhere on the LiveRacers by hovering over a driver's name and using the link button, or on the Driver & Team page. By linking a driver to the user's account, the user gains control over the driver's identity. Each user can link at least one driver (in each domain). If the league admin allows it, a user can link multiple drivers, first as main driver and the others as aliases. If multiple drivers are linked to the user's account, the main driver will aggregate all statistics from the aliases. Linking aliases is useful if a member has changed nicknames in the game. Note that is not allowed to link drivers that belong to other league members.

Unlinking Driver

The user can unlink any drivers that are associated to his/her account on the Driver & Team page, using the unlink . Once unlinked, other users can link the driver. If the driver was an alias, all statistics are reverted back to the alias driver.

Renaming Driver

Renaming a driver is currently not supported, except changing letter cases. LiveRacers will automatically any letter case changes and update the driver's name, e.g. 'My driver' to 'My Driver'.

However it is possible to link multiple drivers to the same account, as aliases. This way both drivers statistics will merge together. See Linking Driver for more info.

Deleting Driver

It is not possible to delete any driver altogether, however a driver can be disabled using . Disabled drivers will not be displayed in Drivers page. Only league admins can disable drivers. Note that this will not prevent any drivers to join your servers, however it will hide the disabled driver's statistics.

Teams

Registered users can create and join teams. A team is owned by team principal, managing the team members and managing team's participation in championships. One user can only ever be member of one team (within a single domain), including the team principal.

Creating Team

To create a team go to Teams page and use . The user who creates the team becomes the team principal. Note that only drivers without a team can create a new team.

Joining Team

To join a team, the user can go to Driver & Team page and request joining an existing team using . Once request is sent, the team principal needs to approve it and the driver will become a team member. Note the team principal cannot join team members without their request first. Only users without a team can join a team.

Once a driver joins a team, he/she can associate all driving history to the team (if it's appropriate) using {0}. This is so if the driver was actually member of the team for some time, and just registered on LiveRacers, the historical statistics are linked to the team.

Leaving Team

Team members can at any time leave their existing team, from the Driver & Team page. This is also necessary before joining a new team. All the existing driver's results will remain linked to the original team.

Team Principal Responsibilities

Team principal is responsible for approving join requests, can also remove existing team members, or transfer the team principal position to another team member. He/she is can edit team, disable or delete team. For team championships, the team principal can join the team to the championship, and configure participating drivers and the scoring order.

Disabling and Deleting Team

Team Principal can disable a team that is no longer required. That way the team principal can create a new team, or join a different team and all the team results will remain unchanged, as in real world.

Team Principal can also delete team that is not associated with any results/championships. If a team is associated with any session results, the league admin can remove this association on the session result page (one by one), so the team can be deleted.

Live Page

Shows currently running servers on active domain. After selecting one of the servers, the User can see live action (with a few seconds delay) watching either the Live Timing widget or the Track widget. Additional widgets with Best Laps display historical records for given server configuration. It is also possible selecting individual drivers (cars) and monitoring each car details. The page widgets are customizable and if logged in, the page remembers any changes to visibility or layout of the widgets.

Top [N] Best laps by Class & Top [N] Best laps by Driver

Widgets contain Top best laps over last 31 days grouped by Driver or Class on active server configuration. Active server configuration means all lap times recorded on active domain, the same Track (including track layout), same Mod and same set of Allowed Vehicles. If any of these changes (track/mod/allowed vehicles), the widgets will show different lap times valid for given configuration

Note that by default, the server name is irrelevant. If running multiple servers with same configuration, they will all display same lap records. A server can restart or even change names and will display same records as long as the configuration is the same. However it is possible to add server name to formula that loads best lap times. Domain admin can configure the domain by switching on the 'Best Laps by server name' settings, so that any changes to server name will reset the best lap times. This way the server name can be used to reset best lap times.

Additionally the Driver records contain top speeds, number of laps started, completed and clean (no incidents or penalties). The Class records also contain top speeds, average fuel consumption and total laps started

It is possible to drill-down into each record to find out more details – for Driver best laps by each class used and for Class best laps by each driver that drove in specified class. Note that the widgets show only valid lap records. To remove a lap time from the records, just mark the lap as Invalid from Results page. Each lap time in drill-down contains link to Session where it was recorded

By default the widgets show Top 50 both Human and AI lap records. The Domain Admin can configure these by hiding AI lap times or change the limit in domain configuration

It is possible to remove individual laps by marking them ‘invalid’. To do that, select the lap that you want to remove, and use the ‘Mark lap invalid’ icon in the Details section. The lap will disappear from the table on next new session. Note that only Admins can mark laps as invalid

Events

Events are one-off race weekends, combination of any number of qualifying/race/other sessions, as configured by the admin. All event sessions usually run on the same day at different time. Drivers don't score any points in events (unlike championships), winning an event is a matter of prestige. Every event race session automatically becomes Rating session. Events are color coded, which makes it easier to recognize the same event accords different pages on the portal. The color is selected by the admin.

Event Status

Event can be in various stages, which affects its 'public' visibility and actions drivers can take against the event. Status is controlled by the admin.

  • Draft This is the initial status while admin configures the event. It is not publicly visible.
  • Open Drivers can enter/leave the event, as long as the event is in the future. Admin can also configure events so that drivers can only enter events close to current date, stopping drivers from joining events far in the future. If the event is open, but it's too early to join, the status will say 'Open from [Date]'.
  • Awaiting Confirmation Event sessions are linked with existing results and it's up to admin to confirm the results. This is where driver penalties can be applied to the results to modify the final order.
  • Results Confirmed Admin has confirmed the results and the event is closed. Drivers cannot join/leave anymore.
  • Cancelled Admin can mark events as cancelled, rather than just delete it, to notify the entered users that it was cancelled. Cancelled events are publicly visible, but drivers cannot join/leave.

Event Classes

Events can be configured to host different car classes. Such events will have separate results for each class. When joining events with classes, the drivers need to select in which class will they race. After the results are linked, the system will automatically assign driver result to one of the event classes depending on the classes' configuration (class name, list of allowed vehicles) and if none of the classes match driver's result, the class that the driver selected when joining will be assigned. Note that the class that the driver selects when joining an event is mostly for indication. If the driver's actual class is different than selected, the result will be associated with the actual class. Drivers can change the class selection any time before the event starts.

How to find Events

Events are displayed on the calendar page, upcoming events (today onwards) on the league dashboard page. Each championship page has a list its events as well.

Event Drivers, Crews and Teams

Currently events only support single drivers. Crews (hot swap) functionality will be added to the full release. Drivers can join events whether they belong to a team or not, however unlike championships, teams cannot join single events, only events that belong to a championship. There are no team standings for events, only for championships.

Joining Events

Drivers can join events from the event page, or from the calendar. The calendar displays all available events by month. To join an event, the user needs to log into LiveRacers with an account, find the event and use . Some events may not be accessible to join if they are far ahead in the future, or in the past (see statuses for more details). Admin can choose to limit how many people can join an event, in which case only limited number of drivers will be allowed to join it.

Leaving and Managing Events

To manage entry options, open entry options on the event page. Members can leave entered events, or change event classes.

Note that each user needs a driver linked with his account for the event results to link with the user account.

Events Statistics

The drivers and teams pages now contain new statistics that capture their success in events, like podium finishes, pole positions etc… The statistics are only updated after the event results are confirmed.

Championships

Championship is a collection of events, where drivers/teams score points in each championship and to fight for the world championship titles. The events in a championship usually follow the same format, configured by the admin. However admin can configure different events in one championship to have different format, as well as use different mod or even different racing simulator.

Championship Status

Championship can be in various stages, which affects its 'public' visibility and actions drivers can take against the championship. Status is controlled by the admin.

  • Draft This is the initial status while admin configures the championship. It is not publicly visible
  • Open Drivers can enter/leave the championship, as long as any of its events in the future. Admin can also configure championship so that drivers can only enter it if the first event is close to current date, stopping drivers from joining championships far in the future. If the championship is open, but it's too early to enter, the status will say 'Open from [Date]'.
  • Awaiting Confirmation All championship events are either Confirmed or Cancelled and it's up to admin to confirm the results. This is where driver penalties can be applied to the results to modify the final order.
  • Results Confirmed Admin has confirmed the results and the championship is closed. Drivers cannot join/leave anymore.
  • Cancelled Admin can mark championships as cancelled, rather than just delete it, to notify the entered users that the it was cancelled. Cancelled championships are publicly visible, but drivers cannot join/leave.

Championship Classes

Championships can be configured to host different car classes. Such championships will have separate standings for each class, and can also have overall standings. When joining championships with classes, the drivers need to select in which class will they race. The classes configured for the championship are also defaulted for every event that of the championship, however it is possible to have different classes for different championship events.

How to find Championships

Championships are listed on the championships page. Active championships (in progress) on the league dashboard.

Championship Drivers, Crews and Teams

Currently championships support single drivers and teams. Crews (hot swap) functionality will be added to the full release. Championship can be configured to allow entry of non-team drivers, teams or both. For team enabled championships, it's the duty of the team principal to enter the team into championship, enter the drivers, configure scoring order and car classes (if applicable).

Joining Championships

Drivers and teams can join championships from the championship page, or from any event page that belongs to the championship. Joining a championship event automatically joins the championship.

  • Drivers only championship: Individual drivers join/leave by using .
  • Teams only championship: Team principal join/leave the teams and also join the team drivers on their behalf. The team principal is the only person controlling teams' entries to championship. If a driver decides to leave the team, he will automatically leave the championship as well. Such driver can then join a different team and continue in the championship with a different team. Use to enter your team (team principal).
  • Mixed championship: If the admin configured the championship enforce team, only team principals can enter teams and team drivers into championship. Otherwise drivers that do not have a team can join individually, drivers with a team are managed by the team principal.

Some championships may not be accessible to enter if the first event is far ahead in the future, or the last event in the past (see statuses for more details). Admin controls if championship is publicly visible by changing the status. Admin can choose to limit how many people can join a championship, in which case only limited number of drivers will be allowed to enter.

Before each championship event, drivers can confirm their participation using .

Leaving and Managing Championship

To manage individual or team options, open on the entry options on the championship/event page.

  • Users can leave previously entered championship, confirm event entries or change classes. This is possible for the whole championship, or for individual championship events.
  • Team principals need to manage team options (for team principals) - entering/withdrawing team members into championship, selecting car classes and managing scoring order (if the number of scoring drivers form one team is limited). Team members cannot manage their championship individually. However team members can confirm their start before each championship event.
